Priority Research, the famous Fabio the Frog™ and Alder Hey Children's Hospital steal the show at the HSC convention at the Church House Conference Centre in London.

Dr Richard Brown (Assistant Director for Quality: Patient Experience, Equality and Engagement – Alder Hey Children’s Hospital) generated plenty of interest as he demonstrated how Alder Hey use this groundbreaking tool, developed by Priority Research, to measure and improve patient experience for children and young people within their care. Dr Brown said "Fabio the Frog and the NPT provides quality engagement for a quality outcome”.

Not only is the NPT used to understand the needs of children, young people, parents and carers, but it allows access to other patients that have, for far too long, been deemed ‘hard to reach’. The NPT including Fabio the Frog™ and his friends can communicate with patients who have a visual impairment, complex needs, severe learning difficulties, audio impairments, can’t read or write, in fact just about everyone receiving care in the NHS.

Fabio the Frog™ was born 4 years ago at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, following the realisation that using traditional paper based patient survey’s could not accurately measure or understand the views of children and young people. Priority Research were asked to provide a solution to this problem, and by working with the children at Alder Hey they found that a farting, nose-picking frog was just the thing to get them eager to have their say. Cheeky, funny and just a little rude, in fact exactly like children themselves! Fabio hits the mark and now Alder Hey can much more effectively talk to children about improving their patient experience.

However, the NPT is not only for kids, as with or without Fabio the Frog™ it easily allows access to the views of ALL patient groups to continually improve the patient experience.
