NPT Leeds Workshop format successful in gathering ideas
The NPT Leeds event on Thursday 3rd December gave a fascinating insight into the current methods being used by SHAs, PCTs, practitioners and other NHS networks to gather patient experience information.
Anne Bury, (Programme Manager for Patient Safety; North East Strategic Health Authority) highlighted her concerns about the current methods being used to retain patient feedback, and how these methods were failing. As a leading figure within the North East SHA, she reiterated a “duty to consult with the public” and how it would be great to have a system that would allow us to “keep abreast of patient feedback”. She understood that the young are more engaged and keyed up when it comes to using new technology, and “to get real time feedback from paediatrics is really amazing”.
Liz McArthur (Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust) recalled an age when listening to children and young people about their care was “just not heard of”. Time, patience and communication were key in reaching the so called “difficult to reach patients”. Liz explained the reasons behind the development of the NPT, including the requirement for a system that returned “instant data” and which could also present results in a “child friendly format”.
Valda Smits (Priority Research) demonstrated the NPT process, outlining its simplicity and speed when designing a questionnaire, gathering patient feedback and reporting using the true real time results.
The event concluded with workshops discussing the various methods organisations currently use to gather patient feedback, and how the NPT could bring real improvements for both patients and clinicians. Once again feedback from the attendees was excellent; it was seen as a valuable event that offered a great introduction to the benefits of the NPT.
So, it’s off to London on the 9th of December for the last event of the 2009. Places are still available for the event and if you would like to book yourself, or a colleague, a seat at the workshop, please follow this link: www.BTGlobalEvents.com/events/NationalPaediatricToolkit
